Thank You, 2015! Hello 2016!

12.31.2015 by Leah // 3 Comments

Another year is about to pass, a year that has been so big to me (due to a major career shift) and which has brought me to new heights.  As you have probably noticed, I blogged less this year as I dealt with my now bigger role in our workplace. I have to learn about "acceptance" in a big way; accept that I cannot solve every problem thrown my way.  Even if I know how to ... READ MORE

New Year Wish for 2015

12.31.2014 by Leah // 1 Comment

As the year 2014 comes to a close today, I'd like to share with you this New Year quote I found online, which is from Michael Josephson, founder of the Josephson Institute of Ethics.  His words captured everything I aspire to be in 2015. He said: "Approach the New Year with... 2015 will be about embracing greater responsibilities and new challenges at my work, but ... READ MORE

Kung Hei Fat Choi! It's the eve of the Chinese New Year and in a few hours we'll be welcoming the Year of the Snake!   It's my year so let's toast to that! Some two weeks ago, AJ and I were at Greenhills with Frances and Vince (where we found our Union Jack storage chest) and we passed by our suking feng shui store, Bensani, to ask about the lucky elements for this year ... Celebrating Christmas 2012 & New Year 2013

01.07.2013 by Leah // Leave a Comment

We celebrated Christmas and welcomed New Year at our home.  Compared with last year,  this year's celebration was more upbeat - with AJ and I entertaining friends over at our apartment and then there's my little nephew, Liam, who also spent the holidays here in the Metro (much to the delight of my parents!). To prepare for Liam's coming, my dad re-decorated my old room and ... READ MORE

“Another fresh new year is here . . . Another year to live! To banish worry, doubt, and fear, To love and laugh and give! This bright new year is given me To live each day with zest . . . To daily grow and try to be My highest and my best! I have the opportunity Once more to right some wrongs, To pray for peace, to plant a tree, And sing more joyful songs!” - William Arthur ... New Year Feast

01.01.2012 by Leah // Leave a Comment

Happy New Year, everyone!!!  How did your celebration go?  =) Here at our home (my side of the family), we no longer strictly observe the Media Noche (Midnight Feast), where families gather together at the stroke of midnight to welcome the New Year and feast on lots of food.  For several years,  we have been having this feast at dinner time (instead of midnight), so we won't ... 12 Round Fruits to Welcome the New Year

12.30.2011 by Leah // Leave a Comment

We were at Quiapo today to hear mass and buy round fruits for the Media Noche tomorrow.    As the tradition goes, we have to have 12 round fruits (with no black seeds) at the dinner table tomorrow, for our year to be lucky and prosperous. We have counted 9 round fruits in our fruit platter so far, so tomorrow morning we need to head to the public market to look for 3 more ... READ MORE

9 months ago this feisty little cat we named Gigi 9 months ago this feisty little cat we named Gigi came to us super dirty (gusgusin to the max), malnourished and is in bad need of treatment for worms and fleas. Who would've thought that she will bloom into a really pretty cat, with salmon-colored nose, beautiful doe eyes, a prominent white hair scarf, and powdery white cheeks.

But she is very far from innocent, and is now feared by the male cats here twice her size because she is #GigitheCatBully pala 😅

Happy 9th monthsary, Gigi Ganda 🥰

To My Father By Georgia Harkness A giant pine, ma To My Father
By Georgia Harkness

A giant pine, magnificent and old
Stood staunch against the sky and all around
Shed beauty, grace and power.
Within its fold birds safely reared their young.
The velvet ground beneath was gentle,
and the cooling shade gave cheer to passers by.
Its towering arms a landmark stood, erect and unafraid,
As if to say, “Fear naught from life’s alarms”.
It fell one day.
Where it had dauntless stood was loneliness and void.
But men who passed paid tribute – and said,
“To know this life was good,
It left it’s mark on me. Its work stands fast”.
And so it lives. Such life no bonds can hold –
This giant pine, magnificent and old.

~

To our shelter and safety while he lived, we miss you so much.
Happy 2nd Year in Heaven, Daddy ❤
