Things that occupy my mind lately

05.15.2014 by Leah // 14 Comments

A lot of things have been occupying my mind lately, which left me feeling exhausted these past few days (hence the absence of blog updates). First, there's this wonderful proposal to partner up in a business that I am very much interested in - jewelry.  In fact, I already have a  business plan for it, ready to be discussed with my interested partner.  It will be an online ... Green Windows Dormitel

11.11.2012 by Leah // 3 Comments

I almost forgot to tell you about this amazing dormitel that we stayed in Davao last month.  I was there with my boss to attend a conference, and the organization which invited us sponsored our accommodation too. It's called a dormitel because it's a hotel-type dormitory and therefore way cheaper than hotel rates.    Our place is called the Green Windows Dormitel and is ... READ MORE

Durian Pie

11.05.2012 by Leah // Leave a Comment

I don't eat durian mainly because of its strong and penetrating odour, but when I tried a Durian Pie during a work trip in Davao City 3 weeks ago, I just couldn't believe it has durian in it. And how could I?  It doesn't smell funny and it looks so heavenly: The taste simply blew me away!   It tastes like a custard pie but distinctly original because of the ... READ MORE

Waling Waling Flowers from Davao

11.01.2012 by Leah // 2 Comments

During a recent trip to Davao (for work), my boss and I had a chance to visit this orchids farm that houses the "Waling Waling" - one of the most sought after orchid plant in the Philippines. Vanda Sanderiana - the scientific name for Waling Waling. Waling-waling, an orchid endemic to the Philippines and only found originally in Davao-Cotabato, foothills of Mt. ... READ MORE

Happy Halloween!

10.31.2012 by Leah // Leave a Comment

Because today's Halloween, I would like to share with you these really big pumpkins I saw in Davao City last week: If only the pumpkins weren't 15kg heavy I would have taken one home to Manila. Tomorrow I'll tell you more about this place in Davao where I found the big pumpkins.  It was teeming with orchid blooms of various colors and sizes.   It's like finding a ... READ MORE

To My Father By Georgia Harkness A giant pine, ma To My Father
By Georgia Harkness

A giant pine, magnificent and old
Stood staunch against the sky and all around
Shed beauty, grace and power.
Within its fold birds safely reared their young.
The velvet ground beneath was gentle,
and the cooling shade gave cheer to passers by.
Its towering arms a landmark stood, erect and unafraid,
As if to say, “Fear naught from life’s alarms”.
It fell one day.
Where it had dauntless stood was loneliness and void.
But men who passed paid tribute – and said,
“To know this life was good,
It left it’s mark on me. Its work stands fast”.
And so it lives. Such life no bonds can hold –
This giant pine, magnificent and old.
